Displays & Signage

A fun little Youth Services project! I helped Christian the Youth Specialist set up this photo display of beloved children’s authors for this Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) display. I also created all the signage.

Photos – Halloween Family Dance Party at Randall Oaks branch

I took photos of the Halloween Family Dance Party and Parade that was held on October 18th at the FRVPLD’s smaller Randall Oaks branch. They will be used for future PR use (likely streaming on the monitor inside the library).

Social Media

During my time in the Youth Services department, I was allowed to craft several social media posts advertising their in-person Fall Storytimes and Día de los Muertos Celebration (Day of the Dead) programs.

Weeding, weeding, & ever more weeding!

I assisted with weeding during several of my practicum shifts at three different departments – Adult and Teen Services, Youth Services, and PATS (Purchasing, Acquisitions & Technical Services). I pulled selected materials from the shelves, demagnetized them, used a sharpie to mark lines through the spine labels and bar codes, helped remove them from the Polaris Leap catalog, and finally dumped them in the bins for the recycling company. It’s a workout!

Other Practicum Tasks:

  • Customer Service
  • Operating Polaris (and Polaris Leap)
  • Pull lists
  • Checking in exceptions from the sorter
  • Helping process ILL requests and materials
  • Generating patron computer passes and extensions
  • Physically processing new materials (stamps, barcodes, security, etc.)
  • “Denewing” materials
  • Putting together program goodie bags
  • Checking in special collections items (American Girl Dolls, kits, etc.)
  • Shelving
  • Mailings
  • Sorting and applying genre spine labels
  • Using FRVPLD technology (RFID security, 3M scanner, sorting machines, etc.)
